Is Overtaking Risky?
Where there is more than 1 lane, then on such a road you can easily overtake when the right lane is empty. There is not much problem on such roads. Because, to avoid accidents on such roads, you have to overtake and come back to your lane very quickly.
Overtake requires more RPM
You may have to downshift while overtaking on a single lane road. For quick overtakes, the vehicle needs more torque, which is available at higher RPM. Because, on higher gear the vehicle is running in lower RPM and while overtaking more RPM is required.
Overtake should be done like this
Suppose, you are driving your car in fourth gear at a speed of 60 km/h. If you accelerate the car in this gear, then the car may take some time to catch the speed. In such a situation, the risk of overtaking can increase. If you overtake the car by shifting from fourth to third gear, then you will be able to overtake quickly.
Downshift is not required in these vehicles.
There is less need to do this in cars with higher engine capacity, but in most cases it is required. Apart from this, good torque is also available at lower rpm in diesel engine and turbo charged petrol engine. That’s why the need for downshift is less in such cars as well. Apart from this, signal pass should also be given by lighting the lights while overtaking.
